Amesbury is a city with more than 16,000 residents that is located in Essex County, Massachusetts. Settled in 1655, the city was once part of Salisbury. It is drained by the Powow River. Powow Hill, elevation 332 feet (98 m), is the highest point in town. The city is the second northern-most town in Massachusetts, its northernmost point coming just south of the northernmost point of the state, in Salisbury.
